Another geek test

i am a super geek

I took another geek test today. (Thanks for the link, Punk!) I couldn’t score very many points on the television-related questions, because I haven’t watched TV for several years, and before that I only watched a few shows on PBS. I was a little let down when I scored under 45% (major geek). But then my wife took the test and scored 22.68% (geek), so I got to go back and change the answer to “Did you marry a geek?” This was enough (along with some other things I mis-marked) to push my score up to 46.15385% or “super geek”–woo hoo! My older daughter also took the test and scored 36.09467% (major geek). I’m so proud! My baby’s all grown up, sniff sniff. I think I should get bonus points for having “major geek” offspring!

One of the last questions on the test is, “I can think of other things that should get me points on this test”. Well, of course!

  • Bonus points for geek offspring. ;)
  • Grant points for other open-source flavors of Unix, e.g. FreeBSD, et al, instead of being Linux-centric.
  • Points for having a computer as part of your home A/V system.
  • Points for home-automation hardware, e.g. X-10.
  • Bouns points for integrating caller ID announcement and/or home automation into your home’s audio/video system.
  • Add “The Return of the King” and “Star Wars Episode III” to the movies list.
  • Add “Firefly” and/or “Serenity” to the list of geek media.
  • Add soldering iron, digital camera and digital video to list of geek toys (microscope, etc.)
  • Bonus points for barometer (on “thermometer that also measures humidity”).
  • Points for knowing which is faster, FireWire or USB 2. Bonus points for knowing by how much.

3% stupid

I found a humorous quiz on Kevin’s blog: The Stupid Quiz said I am "Totally Smart!" How stupid are you? Click here to find out!

The question on how many planets are in the solar system threw me for a bit–not because I’m stupid, but because there is some ongoing discussion as to what constitutes a planet. I thought the quiz authors were trying to be tricky, but it turns out that they are merely looking for the customary answer, i.e. consider Pluto one of the planets and ignore 2003 UB313.

I guess “3% stupid” isn’t too bad, but I prefer the nerd test over this stupidity test.

Seven things…

Andante sent me an invite for this survey. How could I refuse, especially since I was listed as her first victiminvitee?

Diversions: bloggercode, nerdiness, and geourl

I was looking at Mike Little’s Journalized-blue page today, to see if there was anything new there, and I ran across some “diversionary” stuff in the left sidebar. I played with investigated the following:

My blogger code: B2 d++ t+ k s+ u- f i- o++ l- c–

I’m in the 89th percentile of nerdiness: I am nerdier than 89% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out! Scary, especially considering that I’m being compared only to the people who took this quiz, presumably self-selected for nerdiness…

Lastly, I registered my blog on GeoURL. I did this the Right Way, by getting GeoURL to ping my blog after I plugged the geotags for my location into the header. (I tried to whip up a quick-and-dirty header plugin for this, but it wasn’t doing what I expected, so I just hard-coded the geo.* meta tags into my blog header.) You can use this page to generate geo.* meta tags for your own location. I think XHTML requires all tags to be lowercase, so be sure to change the generated <META name=blah> tags to <meta name=blah>. GeoURL
