The assignment for day #2 of 30 Days to a Better Blog was to edit your title and tagline, and flesh them out more in a widget. I actually found this much more difficult than yesterday’s assignment. When I first started this blog, I had only the most nebulous idea of what I wanted to do with it. In all candor, I’m not a very creative person, which was clearly evident in the old title: SonicChicken blog. The tagline was a little more informative: Information, opinions, ideas and rants from my family and friends in Sacramento, California, US. But that was still too generic to be helpful.
Finally, working on the “About” widget got me to rearrange my sidebar. Still the same stuff (plus the new widget), but hopefully the arrangement is a little more useful to visitors.
Although this was a somewhat difficult assignment, it was also rewarding. I feel more focused and energized about my old blog now. So kudos to the folks at WordPress for coming up with this challenge!
Sometime soon, I’d like to put some links in my About this blog… widget. But I think I’ll look at converting some of my tags to categories first. The big problem there is deciding what to “promote” to categories.
Day 2’s assigment was definitely a thought provocation device! I actually spent time and gave my site a real title, which when I chose it, I wondered “Why in the hell hadn’t I titled it this before?” Ha ha.
I’m not new to the Internet, my gawds I played on the ARPANET and cried the day we put her down. I found it highly amusing that for all my umpteen years, I hadn’t figured out, “Title your site”. Ha ha ha.
I also want to say, I love your blog addy. Geek points for the sonicshicken, no doubt!
Thanks, Cyl! (Or do you prefer Lithie?) I know what you mean with the blog title. I fell into the “set it and forget it” rut. It just became part of the frame, as far as my eye was concerned.
The genesis of SonicChicken always makes me cringe, but I have yet to meet a single person who forgets the name after hearing it! 😀
Geek points, geek cred, geekery… Hmmm, there has to be an article floating around in that idea!
