In an earlier post/comment I started running DiskWarrior in an attempt to recover my laptop’s failed harddrive. Still running after 47 hours, but no sign of progress (or failure) yet…

About this blog…
I use this platform to share things that are of interest to me or things I'll want to reference later. Occasionally other people like these posts, hence "Shared Interests".
What might you find here?
- Problems I've solved (mostly computer- or network related).
- Recipes and cooking-related posts.
- Hobbies and projects.
- Our remodeling experience.
- Local (Sacramento) information.
- Anything that strikes my fancy.
I’ve now been staring at DiskWarrior’s “Step 5: Locating directory data…” screen for over a week! (171 hours, 5 minutes, 37 seconds and counting…) The disk is still seeking, I still have the “(Speed inhibited by disk malfunction)” notice, and the display has not changed a bit as far as I can tell. Hey, Alsoft, I would really like a meaningful progress bar on DiskWarrior!
Looks like it’s time for me to give these people a call… 😐
I just spoke to Marc at Alsoft tech support. He said that after a week of running DW, the likelihood of recovery was slim. Apparently DW will keep trying until the disk fails completely. Marc suggested Data Rescue by ProSoft Engineering.
